They do so that they can suck the fun out of life and micro manage your every move. If they can tell you how to have sex they can tell you not to smoke. It's pathetic.

Disfellowshipping smokers is an outrage!
by yaddayadda inhow does the society scripturally justify taking the ultra-harsh measure of disfellowshipping and shunning persons who merely enjoy smoking a few cigarettes a day?
in what way is mild smoking a gross sin that is deserving of such a harsh punishment?
how on earth does the society make the connection between the scriptural exhortation to 'cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit' (2 cor 7:1 & 2) to taking the extremely harsh measure of denying a smoker the right to any contact with their fellow congregation members, friends, and jw family?

My apologies Mrs. Smith (or is that Mrs. Elderette? ) ....I will be sure to ask your "permission" before I post on another thread! I guess after your 261 post-count, the board admins have declared you the arbitrator of which poster can post where?.......................whatever................
Oh gee, thanks Kid A, apologies accepted. I'm very sorry you that you did not see my comment as the tongue in cheek humour it was intended as. I also must apologize for not realising that the amount of post you have under your name makes a difference as to how you address posters with a higher number than yourself. Should I address you as Sir Kid A?
My point was that the thread was addressed to Christains and I have no idea why non Christains would want to post here at all. If someone statrted a thread called "Athiests tell me what lead you into unbelief" I would no post there cause it would not concern me. I may read it out of interest, but would not post out of respect for other people's right to have their own opinion. Maybe RF wanted to see how many ex JW turn to Christianity. If you didn't that's fine but why post on a thread that is not meant for you. It's disrepectful.

Yes, I can fully imagine and believe how the old people get treated in the KH. After all they don't have much money to give to the borg and they don't go out selling books much so why would the elders look after them. Makes me sick

UNbaptised, DISfellowshipped & Free
by Miss 8572 inso hello everyone... i'm a brand new member and happy to be here... to know i am not alone.
i have been a jw since birth however i was never "encouraged"/forced to get baptised by my parents (lucky me!
) i always considered myself a member on the fringes of my congeregation and almost everybody treated me as a member even though i never commented or went in service.

This is my first post, some of you have read my hubby's story - Agent Smith - anyway I was just wondering if I should write a letter to disassociate myself or just leave things as they are. I have not been to meetings for about 8yrs but have only just come to realize what a load of rubbish the JW's teach. Now that I have read "crisis of conscience" I have no doubt that JW's are corrupt. I feel like I need make a formal break but I have loads of family that are JW and even though I don't see them that often I don't want to be shunned by them.
Have started asking my mom lots of loaded questions since then and she's really worried about me. lol

Jehovahs Witnesses are Christians. Not like we should ignore that and think that they are the only whacked out Christian group out there. Plenty of those around. So this would be more like JW turning to another Christian religion.
I disagree. Just because they call themselves Christian does not make them Christain. Be defenition a Christian is someone who follows Christ. Jehovah's Witnesses follow the GB not Christ. They don't even accept Christ sacrifice. They think that works will get them saved and not the gift of salvation.

"Minor" Doctrines - A Loyalty Test ?
by AlphaOmega init's just occured to me that jws go "all out" to show that they are different from "christendom".. obviously they say this because they claim "to be in the truth", but could it be that these differences, these doctrines, make it easy to spot one who is doubting the organisation?.
could it be that by displaying "fruits of faith" that differ from jw doctrine, it is the only way that the gb / elders / whoever have of being able to see into the hearts and minds of the rank and file jws?.
could it be that : having a beard, not accepting the torture state thing, listening to certain music, reading certain literature, not attending so many meetings, not putting enough hours on the record card etc etc are just ways to see who is conforming ?.

AlphaOmega, I think what you say here is true. I can think back to a few examples of JWs that took up minor issues with the elders and are now free.
One example is a lady that was a business woman (married) and part of her job was to take clients out to lunch. Someone saw her at a restaurant with a man and told the elders. The elders spoke to her but she told them to mind their own business and that it was part of her job. She also told them that only someone really stupid would go to a public place with a man she was having an affair with and that other witnesses should not be so quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. She also had a problem with the dress code for women, as she was often in pants suits at work and had to rush afterwork to put her borg clothes on, putting extra demands on her time. She is now no longer a JW and last time I saw her she was really happy.
My husband is another example. He gets really bad barbers rash and grew a beard during a paticularly bad case of barbers rash. The elders had a fit about it, one even bought him some cream to put on his face. He asked them if they thought that Jehovah made a mistake when he gave men facial hair!
I think in many cases it's the small things that get us thinking that the WBTS rules are just too much and not at all loving.
